  • Unofficially aired the network’s first live tornado event in August 2021 and have since aired over a dozen tornado events live, including a live standup in front of a Colorado tornado in August 2023 and 30-minutes, wall-to-wall, during a high-profile tornado event in Iowa in April 2024.
  • Alerted in-house Meteorologists the morning of to growing severe weather/tornado threat in the Houston area in January 2023 and helped direct reporter ahead of a high profile tornado event.
  • One-man-band, sometimes work with one additional person in the field, gathering elements, logistics, shoot and edit, as well as report in the field in extreme weather conditions under tight deadlines.
  • Responsible for nowcasting and navigating to unfolding breaking weather events in real-time.
  • Assist in severe weather stories, appearing as featured expert or providing content and insight.
  • Pitch stories, gather elements, script, edit, produce and put graphics on weather related packages, often working from home.
  • Made on-air debut in June 2021 after tornado touched down near my Colorado home less than two hours after closing.
  • Greatly expanded in-house severe weather footage archive.

  • Helped launch the “Friday Football Blitz”, live weather hits from High School Football on Friday nights. Also shot the football game and edited highlights for the Blitz Highlight Show Friday nights after the 10PM newscast.

Relevant Professional Skills

  • Forecasted and documented severe weather professionally and academically for over 25 years, including over 20 years of Great Plains forecasting and five years in Illinois/Midwest. Witnessed over 400 tornadoes and driven over 500,000 miles.
  • Severe Weather/Tornado Researcher with TWISTEX; Mesonet Team Leader responsible for taking mobile measurements of RFD region of supercell storms, often in close proximity to tornadoes.  Helped author several peer-reviewed papers, and data was used in dozens of other peer-reviewed publications.
  • Edited and delivered ENG weather videos via FTP and Dropbox as a freelance video stringer since 2003 and have generated over $200K in video sales from 2013-2020 in a highly competitive and over-saturated weather video market.
  • Utilized weather software and mobile apps such as Radar Omega, Radarscope, GRLevelx, Baron, WSI and several web-based weather forecasting sites for work in the field and in the studio.
