It had been about six days since the closing day tornado, needless to say we were still buzzing about that.  I squeezed in the South Dakota chase a few days back and had been home a couple days so I could babysit some furniture deliveries as we were still settling in to the new place.

Furniture Guys Setting Up The New Entertainment Center Hours Before Hail Was Unleashed

Fortunately they had done their job and gotten out of there, cause a couple hours later, a storm exploded over our new little town.  Having been well distracted with setup at the house, I hadn’t paid a ton of attention to the weather.  But when a couple clunks ring out from the roof, that’ll grab your attention.

With the hail pretty big, I quickly backed my car into the garage as far as I could get it to protect the rear glass as I wasn’t sure how big the hail would ultimately get.  The garage was still loaded with crap, so there wasn’t room to put the car.

Backed my Car As Far Into The Garage as Possible to Protect The Rear Glass

The initial stones were the biggest, some approaching golfball sized.  But as the brunt of the core settled in, hail size went down as the rate went up!

It hailed for nearly 30 minutes, not even kidding.  My first video clip and my last with hail falling was 26 minutes apart, and the final clip was still hailing like a beast.  The storm, nearly stationary, but moving ever so slightly, had finally lightened up the hail over our place.

Hail Covering My Front Yard After Storm Cleared Out

I hopped into my car and did a quick loop just east of the neighborhood to check out what was left of the storm.  Obviously with a long duration precip event, there was some street flooding in our area, more so back deeper into town (which I did not go explore that direction).

Some Ponding on the Neighborhood Roads After the Storm

I left my neighborhood to get a view of the dying storm that was just off to the east.  The setting sun gave some colors to storm.

Sunset with Dying Storm and Anvil

Quick and easy, barely a few miles to get a sunset shot.  But for the second time in a week, the weather came to me!  This one, similar to the storm that totaled our roof in Wichita a couple months after we bought there, this one did so a few days after closing.  Two homes, two roofs taken out by hail shortly after move-in.  Between the tornado and the hail, my cats were definitely left wondering what the hell we got them into here…
