Hard to call it a chase when it was ‘kinda on the way’, but it truly was.  Heading into work in the wee hours of the morning, strong storms yanked me out the door early, and despite leaving an hour and change earlier than I usually would to head in to a weathermanning shift right around midnight Sunday morning.  These storms dumped a ton of rain, and it lead to street flooding in the usual areas in west Wichita.  Unfortunately those usual areas on my routes into the station.

Prior to the rain’s arrival, I tried to snag some lightning video.  Only a few CGs came into view as most were shrouded in the rain, but I managed one CG and one pretty blinding flash.

Once the rain moved in, it was pretty much on for street flooding.  I focused on West Street near Central as that are quickly became ‘West River’; and a lot of vehicles were attempting to make the drive, and many of them didn’t get far as the water rose quick.  I fortunately was able to navigate through the nearby shopping center parking lots to stay out of the flood waters as even they were too deep for my Subie.

While not the most convenient for those stuck in it, it definitely makes having a story and talking point for the weatherman hits later that morning pretty nice.  I also scored some national airtime on Good Morning America and The Weather Channel only hours later.
