A leash in the form of a 5:00pm deadline prevented me from getting too far; unfortunately I accepted that deadline with hopes that storms would wait til evening. I was in Watkins when I accepted, drove back into Denver in time to hear the tornado warnings go up. I fought off traffic successfully (for a change) and made it to E-470 and Quincy where I shot the second of the two landspouts I saw today. The first was while enroute to my photo area and was unable to safely get video (poor contrast plus traffic).

Large Area of Dust East of Denver on Second Storm Intercept

When I got to E-470 and Quincy, I watched a ton of dust kick out from the storm, giving way to a landspout which formed from a small dust bowl on the ground to a hollow funnel to the cloud. I had good visibility of the cloud from my vantage point, but the video’s max zoom killed the good vid segment. In any case, I managed to FINALLY break my DCVZ curse and bag a couple tornadoes, even as I was only watching for 20 minutes. I ran back into Denver to finish my job and call it for the night! SUCCESS!
