Weather Journal: July 15, 1998

This page contains my first lightning pictures! I was very proud to be able to add these to my collection of storm chasing photographs.

These pictures were taken first from my car. It was raining outside, so I put my tripod on the front driver’s seat and pointed the camera through an open window. I then sat in the front passenger seat and shot between the passing cars. These were a few of the good ones I got.

This picture was one of several I took from near a lake by my house. I moved a bit closer to the lake, which put me closer to the storm. I could see the lightning was more vivid in the distance, but I got lucky with this bolt being rather close.

These were my favorite shots by far. I moved a mile closer, which put me at a construction site that over looked part of the town. A fought off some drizzle, but put my camera facing out over the town. I pulled these two shots, and I had a third, but it was too far off the frame. It darted in and out off the left side of the shot.
